In this extraordinary match, which was a Benefit match for W. Flowers, rain caused a complete washout on the first day, Whit-Monday. When play eventually began the match was completed in just 185 minutes. This was the shortest completed first-class match but a disaster for the beneficiary. Middlesex made just 86 in their only innings and Somerset were bowled out for 35 and 44. Middlesex winning by an innings and 7 runs. The top scorers were Sammy Woods and Foley who both made 20. Trott took 11 wickets and Hearne 8 wickets for Middlesex and Tyler took 8-42 in Middlesex's only innings
